Childcare Assistance
Western Piedmont Community College offers child care assistance through a North Carolina State Grant. The intention of this grant is to “assist student-parents with the financial responsibilities for child care expenses so they may stay enrolled and complete their educational goals.”
Applying for Child Care Assistance
- Complete a child care assistance application and submit with the required documents as listed on the application. The application is available online or in Student Services in Hildebrand Hall.
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Your FAFSA with the Student Aid Index number must be received by Western Piedmont Community College before eligibility for child care assistance can be determined.
- Provide an Approval or Denial letter from your local DSS Childcare Assistance program.
Eligibility for Child Care Assistance
- Resident of North Carolina according to the NC Residency Determination Service.
- Enroll in a Title IV eligible program of study (Associate Degree, Basic Law Enforcement Certificate, or Cosmetology Certificate).
- Enroll in and maintain the following course loads (courses must be in the eligible program of study)
- At least 6 credit hours for the fall and spring semesters
- At least 6 credit hours for the summer semester. (Summer assistants depend on the availability of funds. Priority given to students graduating during the Summer semester.)
- Submit monthly invoices, attendance, and progress confirmations before or on the due dates.
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) or be in probation status after a successful SAP Appeal.
- Children of eligible parent(s) must be enrolled in a licensed child care facility.
Priority
- Priority for childcare assistance is given as follows:
- returning single parents with highest unmet need
- returning non-single parents with highest unmet need
- new single parents with highest unmet need
- new non-single parents with highest unmet need
