Practical Nursing
The Practical Nursing program supports the missions of the North Carolina Community College System and Western Piedmont Community College. The faculty is committed to providing accessible, high-quality nursing education to meet the diverse and changing healthcare needs of the service area. The goal is to promote the development of qualified students prepared for the professional role of a practical nurse entering into practice. Graduates of this program meet the education requirements to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN).
The practical nursing diploma is a one-year program that gives you skills to work in long-term care, hospital settings, outpatient settings, or home health. The program accepts a new cohort of qualified applicants every Fall semester. All admission requirements should be completed and submitted by May 31st.
The program only begins in fall semester and is three semesters long, Fall, spring and summer.

with Practical Nursing as major by May 31st.
2. Submission of official high school and any college transcripts.
3. Complete the following developmental courses if required:
a. Eligible to take MAT 143 or higher without a co–requisite.
b. Meet English competency to enroll in ENG 111 without a co–requisite.
4. Maintain a college GPA of 2.0 or a bachelor’s or higher degree
5. Score a minimum of 57 (unrounded) on the TEAS test (Test of Essential Academic Skills)
TEAS score must be 3 years old or less, must be taken in–person at any testing site, and
may only be taken up to four times in a 12–month year with a at least 45 days in between testing. A TEAS test schedule and registration link will be emailed to pre–nursing students in the A1030N program. Typically test dates vary, but will be prior to the application deadline. 7. Complete ACA 115
Successful completion of NUR 101 (Fa), NUR 102 (Sp), and NUR 103 (Su) is required for
graduation. In addition, PN students must complete the following General Education (Gen Ed/non–nursing) courses with a grade of “C” or higher to be eligible for graduation from the PN program:
- ENG 111 Writing & Inquiry
- BIO 168 Anatomy & Physiology I
- BIO 169 Anatomy & Physiology II
- PSY 150 General Psychology
