Phifer Allied Health Emergency Loan Fund
The Phifer Allied Health Emergency Loan Program (PAHELP) has been established to provide emergency financial assistance to students enrolled in an Allied Health Program at Western Piedmont Community College. PAHELP funds are to used only in extreme emergencies that would otherwise require the student to withdraw from the program. Funds are to be used only after all other sources (i.e. scholarships, Stafford Loans, Social Services, etc.) have been exhausted. Possible emergency situations include but are not limited to the following situations: Separation from or death of a spouse, loss of income, and loss of housing or transportation.
Details of Administration and Guidelines
- Funds are to be used for Allied Health students who are in extreme financial difficulty (need)
- Students should have completed two full semesters of their associate degree program, or one full semester of their diploma program, and have a high probability of graduating on time to be considered for funding
- Students may request up to $1,500 in PAHELP funds during an academic year
- Recipients of loans will be required to execute a promissory note with the Western Piedmont Foundation, Inc. before funds are disbursing
- Loans will be issued interest free for one year. If the loan remains outstanding one year after graduation or withdrawal from the program, interest will accrue at 9% per year
- 50% of a student’s loan will automatically be forgiven upon graduation from WPCC. (Note: The student must graduate on time.)
- To apply for loan funds, a student must submit a written request to the Director of Financial Aid. The request should outline the student’s need for PAHELP Funds and how the funds will be used
