By signature, I acknowledge that I understand and agree to follow the policies and provisions of the Western Piedmont Community College Library (Policy Manual, Section 5, available for review at the Circulation Desk.). I understand that I am responsible for any materials checked out in my name and that I may incur charges for overdue, damaged, or lost library materials. Furthermore, I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the Library Acceptable Use Policy for Internet Resources below.
LIBRARY ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY FOR COMPUTER/INTERNET RESOURCES
The use of computers in the Western Piedmont Community College Library/ASC is a privilege provided currently enrolled students of the college. Library staff reserves the right to monitor use of computer and Internet resources. The Internet may provide access to sites that some patrons may find offensive. he computers are not filtered. As a courtesy, and at the discretion of library staff, members of the Burke County Community may be allowed brief use of Library/ASC computers, when and if they are not currently needed by enrolled students or WPCC faculty. Community members are encouraged to use the facilities of the Burke County Public Library. If Library/ASC computers are needed by WPCC students and the staff deems computer usage by students is too heavy, at any given time, the community user will be denied access to Library/ASC computers or be asked to relinquish the workstation by staff. Any refusal to do so will result in automatic and permanent suspension of the community user’s right to use WPCC Library/ASC computers. The community user is subject to the same provisions and limitations of computer usage as WPCC students and faculty. The Library/ASC supports the principles of intellectual freedom; therefore, the following restrictions are as minimal as feasible. All users MUST read and agree to the provisions contained in this agreement. Through signature, users agree to the acceptable use policy each time access is granted. Through login, users reaffirm their agreement to the acceptable use policy.
Internet computers are provided primarily for research & information in support of instruction.
All users of Internet resources are expected to use the resources in a responsible manner that is consistent with the educational purposes for which they are provided.
Users may NOT change any computer settings or download files to the computer hard drives without the express permission from the Library/ASC staff. Word processing, spreadsheet and similar software applications are available on Library/ASC computers. The access, upload, download, or distribution of sexually explicit material or the display of inappropriate material, defined as text or graphics that may be construed as obscene or sexually explicit is prohibited.
Unauthorized copying, providing, or receiving of copyrighted or licensed software or data is prohibited. Use of Library/ASC workstations inappropriately or irresponsibly, as defined in the acceptable use policy, will result in judicial due process as outlined in College policies, including the Student Code of Conduct.
