Excellence in Teaching Criteria

Selection and Nomination Criteria

 

  • Should be a full-time WPCC curriculum faculty member whose primary assignment is teaching;
  • Should have an obvious desire for knowledge and love of learning;
  • Should hold appropriate credentials;
  • Should show respect and admiration of all academic disciplines and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues;
  • Should encourage an inquiring attitude in his/her students;
  • Should evaluate each student’s work fairly, promptly, critically, and consistently;
  • Should present his/her courses in a manner consistent with stated course objectives;
  • Should maintain high academic standards;
  • Should insist that students achieve at their highest potential and make every effort to assist them in doing so;
  • Should be willing to provide extra assistance to students who desire it, both inside and outside the classroom;
  • Should continually seek ways of improving instructional techniques;
  • Should attempt to make learning exciting for his/her students;
  • Should stay abreast of recent developments in his/her discipline;
  • Should seek and accept appropriate non-teaching College assignments;
  • Should take an active role in establishing and maintaining the rights and privileges of his/her position as a member of the full-time curriculum faculty and accepting the responsibilities incurred thereby;
  • Should promote teaching as a career choice;
  • Should demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy of the community college generally and to the mission and goals of Western Piedmont Community College particularly.
