Excellence in Teaching Criteria
Selection and Nomination Criteria
- Should be a full-time WPCC curriculum faculty member whose primary assignment is teaching;
- Should have an obvious desire for knowledge and love of learning;
- Should hold appropriate credentials;
- Should show respect and admiration of all academic disciplines and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues;
- Should encourage an inquiring attitude in his/her students;
- Should evaluate each student’s work fairly, promptly, critically, and consistently;
- Should present his/her courses in a manner consistent with stated course objectives;
- Should maintain high academic standards;
- Should insist that students achieve at their highest potential and make every effort to assist them in doing so;
- Should be willing to provide extra assistance to students who desire it, both inside and outside the classroom;
- Should continually seek ways of improving instructional techniques;
- Should attempt to make learning exciting for his/her students;
- Should stay abreast of recent developments in his/her discipline;
- Should seek and accept appropriate non-teaching College assignments;
- Should take an active role in establishing and maintaining the rights and privileges of his/her position as a member of the full-time curriculum faculty and accepting the responsibilities incurred thereby;
- Should promote teaching as a career choice;
- Should demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy of the community college generally and to the mission and goals of Western Piedmont Community College particularly.
