Career Olympics

This lab is open for adults who wish to pursue Career Readiness Certification. The North Carolina Career Readiness Certificate is based on the ACT WorkKeys system of job profiling, assessment and instructional support. The system awards three levels of certification – Bronze, Silver and Gold. The Career Readiness Certificate credentials are  based on assessments in Applied Mathematics, Reading for Information and Locating Information.

Customer Service Excellence Certification

This course is designated for new or potential restaurant employees, retail sales consultants, hospitality employees, and administrators.  No previous experience, education or training in business skills is required, though participants should possess basic literacy, communication skills, and  be active contributors.  After completing the course, participants will be able to apply excellent customer service skills on the job and will have created a professional development plan to keep imporving customer relations.

Technology Awareness: The Basics

This class provides the student with developing a moderate comfort level with basic computer use skills, as well as using technology to effectively search and apply for employment and gain access to government and educational resources.  The importance of social media in prospective job searches and the consequences of negative social media use are also examined.  Assessments will be administered to determine student understanding and comprehension of the use of technology in the employment process.

Employability Skills

This class provides the student with interview techniques that not only impress prospective employers, but also help alleviate nervousness and give confidence to the applicant.  Resumes are compiled/polished and reviewed. Emphasis is given on removing/reducing barriers to employment.  Assessments will be administered to determine student understanding and comprehension of the employment process and to provide the student real time feedback on his/her progress.

HRD 3006- Motivation & Retention- Staying Employeed

This class provides the student with the skills necessary to “keep” a job once it is attained as well as how to advance within the workplace. Emphasis is placed on attitude  and work ethics. Students also evaluate the importance of understanding the components necessary when balancing work/school/family. Assessments will be administered  to determine student understanding and comprehension in workplace ethics and interaction.
