This is an ALL LEVELS pottery class for all folks curious about clay. It is geared towards those who have taken a pottery class at WPCC before and are working to grow their skills and practice, but is also appropriate for beginngers who have never touched clay! Skills covered will include handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques, with suggested projects to include sculptural lamp bases, lidded jars, and dinnerware sets. Students are encouraged to come with their ideas and receive instruction on how to complete them! All questions and experience levels are welcome and the overall goal is to HAVE FUN playing with clay!
Disclaimer: this class is not a “paint-your-own-pottery” class. You’ll be responsible for the ENTIRE process – from forming the wet clay through to glazing. You’ll learn the technical skills of how to handbuild, throw and trim, add handles, control drying, and apply glaze. You’ll learn a bit about firing temperatures and general ceramic terms and concepts. You’ll help keep the studio clean. This is a DIY class – the instructor will teach you how to complete your project, will load and fire kilns, reclaim clay and mix glaze, but will not complete your project for you!
