WPCC Club Hosts NCSD Students fn 032414Morganton, NC – Western Piedmont Community College’s (WPCC) American Sign Language (ASL) Club recently hosted a visit to the College campus by several members of the North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) Student Body Government.  The NCSD students led a presentation regarding examples of idioms in ASL which sparked much discussion between the WPCC and NCSD students.  Shown are students from both schools during the WPCC visit.

WPCC Students Present ASL Stories fn 032414In addition, WPCC’s Interpreting class members presented their American Sign Language stories to NCSD’s middle school students.   To meet their course requirements for their “Numbers and Fingerspelling” class, the WPCC students had to present their original ASL stories to an audience of Deaf participants.   Shown here (l-r) are WPCC students Taylor Boone, Brittany Peidl, Dara Fox, Jessie Minish, and Emily Hayworth.

The College offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Interpreter Education, a curriculum that prepares individuals to work as entry-level Sign Language Interpreters who will provide communication access in interview and interactive settings.
