Morganton, NC – Western Piedmont Community College’s Small Business Center (SBC) will receive support and funding through a $10,000 Wells Fargo Grant that was awarded through the Western Piedmont Foundation.

The SBC was fortunate to be invited to apply for the grant and receive funds for a second year. This year, The Wells Fargo Foundation placed a specific emphasis on businesses related training.

Beginning in 2022, the business community of Burke County will be offered special education and training sessions through a collaboration between WPCC’s SBC and the Burke County Chamber of Commerce.

“The Wells Fargo Fund allows the Small Business Center to offer training that we would not be able to offer otherwise to the community,” SBC Director Suzanne Wallace said. “The training that we plan to provide is going to be specific to Burke County Businesses and we hope they learn information that will help them manage their businesses successfully.”

Participants can expect topics will be presented in focused sections relevant to the community and our region. Resources and contacts will be provided along with tips for marketing, overcoming the challenges from COVID-19 and the economy in Burke County – along with other information.

Sessions will be held at restaurants, businesses, and organizations to create awareness about local businesses.

“We are excited to be partnering with the Small Business Center to offer these programs to the Burke Community. They are opportunities for our businesses to learn about hot topics in order for them to be more effective in their companies,” Chamber President & CEO Tonia Stephenson said. “We also will be offering the chance for our business leaders to meet their elected officials and learn more about working more effectively together as public and private entities.”
