Jan. 26, 2021 – The Building Construction Technology program at Western Piedmont Community College recently received a donation of 12 tool bags full of supplies from Lowe’s Home Improvement store #1097 of Morganton.

The tool bag donation, which valued at $1,464 of supplies, included wrenches, wire cutters, safety glasses and gloves. These bags will be distributed to Intro to Wiring students and participants in the Electrician’s Academy, which will take place in the summer.

“Lowe’s has been very willing to help support the program, and I would like to express our appreciation and gratitude,” said Derrick Walker, coordinator of WPCC’s Building Construction Technology. “I know this will go a long way toward helping our students in our electrical program.”

Lana Ramsey, assistant store manager of merchandising at Lowe’s Home Improvement, presented Walker with the tool bags.

“Seeing young people who are interested in being a part of the trades, we want to support that,” Ramsey said. “I mean, that’s our future. It’s their future, but it’s our future, too.”

Ramsey believes the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic also presents a challenge to today’s students that Lowe’s Home Improvement can help relieve.

“Especially the times that we’re in, it’s a little bit harder sometimes for students to have what they need. So if we can do that, we’re all about it. We love helping our community.”
