Student Art Exhibition Winners Named

WPCC Announces Student Art Winners 041614 fnMorganton, NC –  Western Piedmont Community College recently hosted the opening of the fifth annual Raymond B. Goodfellow Student Art Exhibition.  Among the seven award winners are (front, l-r) Amber Vue for the Foundations award; April Barrier for the Mr. Carmen Panaro Photography Award; Robin Fry for the Digital Art Award, and Mason Bangheart for the Animation/ Interactive Award John Ross for the Visual Art Award; (back l-r) are instructors Jonathan Crumpler, Zach Inks, David Clifton, Mark Poteat; student winner Glen Tanzer for the Professional Craft: Clay award, and instructor Courtney Long.  Mark Freeman, who won the Professional Craft: Wood award, is not pictured.

Lance Turner, a Morganton native, served as Juror. Turner has had exhibitions of his work across the South East and across the country. He holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Memphis and a master of fine arts from Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta.

This annual student art exhibition, featuring work by WPCC students, was established by the Art Department and the Library Staff at WPCC and is sponsored by the Western Piedmont Foundation. The exhibition honors the late Raymond Goodfellow, arts educator, dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, and vice president of Academic Affairs, who established the Art program at the College.

Opened in 2006, the Goodfellow Gallery serves as a venue to exhibit the works of faculty, students and regional artists.  New exhibits are showcased three to four times each year with a variety of shows that include paintings, photographs, pottery, wood and textiles.
