College Announces 2014 Medical Assisting Graduates

WPCC Announces Medical Assisting Grads 070714 fnMorganton, NC – Western Piedmont Community College announces the recent graduation of thirteen students from its Medical Assisting program. Students from the Class of 2014 receiving the Associate in Applied Science degrees in Medical Assisting were Holly Beane, Patricia Brogley, Tara Broyhill, Connie Clark, Nicole Coy, Megan Earwood, Brooklynn Ellis, Tanni England, Whitney Robinson, Lindsay Sherrill, Nancy Thomas, and Whitney Thomas. Vicky Lee received a Diploma in Medical Assisting in the commencement exercise.

Graduates were honored with a pinning ceremony at which time pins were presented by Rachel Bradshaw, AAS, CMA, clinical instructor for the program. Awards were presented for outstanding student performance, by Ann Giles, MHS, CMA. Connie Clark received a certificate as Outstanding Administrative Student. Holly Beane and Brooklynn Ellis were recognized as Outstanding Clinical Students, and Whitney Thomas received the award for Outstanding Laboratory Student. Receiving certificates for Outstanding Practicum Performance were Holly Beane, Tara Broyhill, Connie Clark, and Brooklynn Ellis.

Area medical offices participating in the education of the medical assisting students this spring were recognized including Burke Primary Care, Medical Heights ObGyn, Mountain View Pediatrics, Cardiology Associates of the Carolinas, Hopewell Family Medicine, Morganton Internal Medicine, all of Morganton; Ortho Carolina and Carolina Oncology of Hickory: Valdese Family Care of Valdese, and the following offices of Blue Ridge Health Care System: Blue Ridge Digestive Health, Blue Ridge Neurology, Family Medical Associates, Lenoir Family Medicine, McDowell Medical Associates, Nebo Medical Center, Table rock Family Medicine, and Women’s Health Group.

Medical assistants are multi-skilled health professionals specifically educated to work in ambulatory settings performing administrative and clinical duties. The practice of medical assisting directly influences the public’s health and well-being, and requires mastery of a complex body of specialized skills requiring both formal education and practical experience that serves as standards for entry into the profession.
