Summer session at WPCC is as active as ever, especially for the students in the Digital Effects and Animation Technology (DEAT) Program. On the weekend of July 29 through the 31, TEAM WPCC worked together to participate in the Asheville 48 Hour Film Project where they created a film from concept to completion over the period of one weekend.

The 48 Hour Film Project is a competition where filmmaking teams from Asheville and across the region work together to write, shoot, edit, and produce a film in just 48 hours. Each team draws a film genre and are given a character, prop, and line of dialogue that must be incorporated in their film.

This year’s creative filmmakers included the following list of DEAT students Jacob Cox, Abigail Reyes-Calderon, Madison Ellington, Colby Franklin, Sam Millner, Christopher Stapleton, Chelsea Caceres and Rebecca Carson.

Team WPCC was awarded the Best Visual FX Award at the awards ceremony that took place at the Asheville Community Theater on August 20.

One of the writers of the film, Sam Millner, when asked about the experience states; “Working on the Asheville 48 Hour Film Festival was such an enjoyable experience and my first time making a short film. While the time limit adds a certain level of stress to get the job done, everyone on the team was dedicated to giving everything to the project and we had a blast making it. I started out mainly on the writing team but by the end I was acting and assisting on the set wherever I could. It really helped to give me on the job experience and help develop the flexibility I need to further pursue my love of film production.”

WPCC’s faculty and staff that assisted students in the event include Julie Church, Tyler Mckenzie, Zach Inks, Kevin Human and Jonathan Crumpler.
