WPCC Awards Nursing Student with Academic Excellence Award
The Academic Excellence Award recognizes and encourages scholarship among the students of the North Carolina Community College System. This award honors students who have set the highest possible goals and attained the pinnacle of academic success.
Melinda is a member of Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society and valedictorian for her class – graduating at just 19 years old.
“Receiving this award is inspirational because it demonstrates how much work I have put into my education and shows how I have grown from high school to college,” Sajche Chay said. “It shows how I have adapted to the environment, worked hard, and studied to get to where I am.”
Diana Brewer, WPCC Nursing Instructor, was Melinda’s advisor throughout her time in the nursing program. Prior to enrolling in the nursing program, Melinda attended Burke Middle College where she completed all her pre-requisite and co-requisite courses.
“She puts her heart and soul into whatever she does, but she has shown true humility throughout her accomplishments. She will be an extraordinary nurse and I can’t wait to see her further her education and continue to excel at whatever path she chooses to follow in nursing.
After Graduation, Melinda will register for the NCLEX. Once she obtains her license, she will pursue employment at Catawba Valley Medical Center on the medical floor. She plans to build her skills and pursue a BSN after gaining a few years of experience.
