WPCC’s Ninth Successful Year as VITA Site
THANK YOU TO ALL VITA VOLUNTEERS FOR MAKING THE VITA PROGRAM A SUCCESS!
Western Piedmont Community College served as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site for the ninth consecutive year in 2014. The VITA program is a program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide free tax assistance to low-income taxpayers. Thirteen volunteers participated in this project completing over 300 phone calls and preparing 105 tax returns. The average time to complete a tax return was 33 minutes. This program provided a valuable service with an estimated savings of over $20,000 in tax preparation fees and generated more than $106,000 in refunds for our community. Field site visits are conducted by the IRS to maintain the integrity of the VITA program. Based on the field site visit this year, the WPCC site met all ten or 100% of the Quality Site Requirements.
As the site coordinator, I extend an enormous thank you to all of the students, faculty, staff and volunteers that made this a successful tax season for our site!
