WPCC’s MLT Competes in 2024 National Cell Bowl
The Cell Bowl is a lively, interactive competition between medical laboratory science programs nationwide that culminates in the Super Cell Bowl. The Cell Bowl tests student’s knowledge of blood cell identification and morphology (all while preparing them for the ASCP Board of Certification exams).
This year there were three weeks of play in the regional competition before the top three teams from each division, East and West, could move on to the semifinals. WPCC Medical Laboratory Technology team was in 4th place in the East Coast Division for the first week! This is out of 26 East Coast teams that submitted scores for the first week of play. Nationally WPCC was ranked 5th. For both the second and third weeks of the game of the division competition, we were ranked 4th for our East Coast Division and also 4th place nationally. MLT faculty is so proud of their students and their hard work!
“What is amazing is that this competition started up during the time that Hurricane Helene devastated our area, and our students were still able to prevail and turn in top-notch scores for our team. We are also so very proud of this group of students because we just missed going to the semifinals this year” said MLT Instructor, Laura Marley-Trotter.
The top three teams of each division go to the semifinals, so they only missed the semifinals by one spot compared to the previous year which was two. To celebrate their success, MLT hosted a Cell Bowl Party for their students on Friday, Oct 25th. The top scorers for JV and Varsity teams will be recognized as well as the overall top scorer.
