Western Piedmont Community College Awarded Next NC Grant from John M. Belk Endowment

Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) has been awarded a $30,000 Next NC Grant from the John M. Belk Endowment to expand financial support for students during the 2025-2026 year.

Through this grant, WPCC will provide financial assistance for books, supplies, and fees to help students continue their education without financial barriers. The grant is part of the Belk Endowment’s Next NC Helene Affected Colleges initiative, which supports community colleges impacted by Hurricane Helene to increase Next NC Scholarship awareness and completion.

“This grant is extremely beneficial for our students, who have all been impacted in one way or another by Hurricane Helene,” WPCC Financial Aid Counselor Lindsay Stump said. “It is helping students who otherwise may not qualify for financial assistance that covers books and fees, to be able to afford this academic year at WPCC.”

The Next NC Scholarship provides up to $3,000 per year for eligible community college students, ensuring that full-time students from families earning $80,000 or less can attend college tuition-free. Part-time students may also qualify for awards. Students must complete the FAFSA to see their eligibility for federal aid and Next NC state aid.

Spring 2026 advising and registration at WPCC begins November 17, 2025. Students interested in applying for financial assistance are encouraged to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible and speak with a Financial Aid Counselor in Student Services located in Hildebrand Hall on WPCC’s Main Campus at 1001 Burkemont Avenue or by phone at (828) 448-6046 to learn more about eligibility and funding opportunities.
