Become a Game Creator!

The 2024 Sim & Game Creation Camp will provide the opportunity for you to explore hands-on graphics creation through activities using 3D modeling and animation technologies. These are used to create animation for films and games.

The camp features state-of-the-art computers and equipment and gives you the chance to try your hand with these new technologies. In addition, you will have the chance to meet other young animators from the area who share your interests and work together to develop some really cool projects.

No Experience Necessary!

There are no requirements that you have advanced computer knowledge other than basic computer operations and an interest to learn!

The camp is for youth ages 11 – 16.  Unfortunately, we do not have a camp for youth younger than 11 but if you or your child have an interest, please tell us below and we will take this into consideration for future camps! 

Emerging Game Dev Technology

The Sim and Game Creation Camp will  provide the opportunity for attendees to explore hands-on game development through activities using the Unreal and Unity Game Engines and will explore virtual and augmented reality tools used in the creation of these new experiences. The camp features state-of-the-art computers and equipment and gives you the chance to try your hand with these new technologies that are revolutionizing the gaming world.

Your Instructors

Our camp is being led by two alumni of the WPCC Digital Effects and Animation Technology (DEAT) program who have gone on to produce independent films.

Johnathan Pardue-Instructor for Sim and Game

Johnathan Pardue

Johnathan Pardue is an instructor in the Simulation and Game Development program and is also an alumna of Western Piedmont Community College. Johnathan has been lead instructor for the Sim and Game Creation camp for 13 years. Johnathan has worked in creating virtual reality experiences for many industries and agencies and provides a wealth of knowledge in both Unity and Unreal game engines.

Johnathan is excited to help introduce the next generation of game creators to emerging tools and applications.

Bynum Murray

Bynum Murray is an Instructor of Simulation and Game Development at Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, North Carolina. His primary areas of instruction are in 3D modeling, animation and game creation. As well as working in game development, Bynum also has created award winning 3D animations and videos. Bynum has a Masters of Fine Arts from Clemson University in Digital Production Arts.

For Parents

We ensure that our Sim and Game Creation is a safe and welcoming place for your child. Each parent or guardian is invited to meet with our camp instructors in the lab space on the first day of camp. Your child will remain with our instructors until you return for pick up at the end of each camp session.

There are 2 ways to sign up:

 

  • SIGN UP ONLINE
    Use the online registration for WPCC Continuing Education (the section number is 71587). You will be sent a separate email with information on payment for the courses.
    IMPORTANT: If you are under the age of 16, your parents or guardian must download, fill out, sign, and submit this Registration Form.
  • REGISTER IN PERSON
    Stop by Hildebrand Hall on the WPCC Main Campus [map] and see Anna Watkins in Room 107 Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

WPCC’s DEAT & SGD Programs

WPCC offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Simulation and Game Development (SGD) that prepares graduates for careers including independent cxontractors, artists, video programmers, game and sound design, game testers and producers.  We also offer an Associate in Applied Science degree in Digital Effects and Animation Technology (DEAT) that prepares graduates for careers such as graphic and motion graphic design for video and web, 3-D simulation and visualization, video production, freelance work, and marketing.
