The following restrictions exist to holding public office concurrent with College employment:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Full-Time Public Offices<\/strong>: Upon election to or acceptance of appointment to a public office requiring full-time service, an employee of the College will be deemed to have resigned from College employment.\u00a0 However, upon written request and, if deemed practicable by the Trustees, the employee may be granted an appropriate leave of absence, with reduced compensation or without pay and benefits, to coincide with the period of public service; with such period of leave not to exceed two (2) years in any case.<\/li>\n
  2. Part-Time Public Offices<\/strong>: Election to or acceptance of an appointment to a public office requiring part-time service, for which no compensation is paid or for which the compensation paid is nominal, shall be presumed not to create a conflict of time or interest which interferes with responsibilities owed the College.\u00a0 However, if the President believes that there will be a conflict of time or interest in the particular case, the question may be referred for resolution to the Trustees.\u00a0 Any employee who files as a candidate for or intends to accept appointment to such a public office must promptly provide to the President a written statement setting forth the amount of any payments to which the holder of such office is entitled and indicate the employee\u2019s intentions to remain employed, resign, or seek a leave of absence.<\/li>\n
  3. Candidate for Full-Time Office<\/strong>: The candidacy of a College employee for election to a public office requiring full-time service is presumed to create a conflict of time which interferes with the performance of responsibilities owed the College and requires the employee either to procure an appropriate leave of absence or to resign from College employment.\u00a0 If prior to announcing candidacy, the affected employee, by written petition, is able to establish to the satisfaction of the College that, contrary to this presumption, such candidacy in fact will not create a conflict of time which interferes with responsibilities owed the College, the resignation requirement shall not be applicable.\u00a0 Upon written request by the employee, and if deemed practicable by the Trustees, the employee may be granted a full or partial leave of absence from College employment, with a corresponding suspension or reduction in pay and benefits corresponding to the period of candidacy.<\/li>\n
  4. Candidate for Part-Time Office<\/strong>: The candidacy of a College employee for election to a public office requiring part-time service, for which no compensation is paid or for which the compensation paid is nominal, is presumed not to create a conflict of time which interferes with responsibilities owed the College.\u00a0 However, if the President believes that there will be a conflict of time in the particular case, the question may be referred for resolution by the Trustees.\u00a0 Any employee who files as a candidate for such a public office must provide to the President a written statement setting forth the amount of any payments to which the holder of such office is entitled and indicate the employee\u2019s intentions to remain employed, resign, or seek a leave of absence.<\/li>\n
  5. Political Campaign Activities:<\/strong> With respect to an employee\u2019s candidacy for election to public office, or to any other person\u2019s candidacy for election to public office, no College employee shall:\n
      \n
    1. Use College funds, services, supplies, vehicles, or other property to support or oppose the candidacy of any person for elective public office;<\/li>\n
    2. Make any promise of preferential treatment (or actually confer such preference) or make any threat of detrimental treatment (or actually impose such detriment) to any person, with respect to any condition or incident of employment over which the employee has authority, control, or influence, for purposes of inducing support of or opposition to any candidate for elective office; or<\/li>\n
    3. Solicit support for any political candidate or support for any issue on any referendum during regular working hours on College property. The Board may, however, authorize the President or the President’s designee to solicit support during regular College working hours for referendums that directly support the College’s interest.<\/li>\n
    4. This Policy shall not operate to preclude the discussion of political matters by students and employees.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
    5. College President:<\/strong>\u00a0 All portions of the Policy above apply to the President of the College.\u00a0 In addition, the Trustees will notify the State Board of Community Colleges when the President becomes a candidate for public office or when the President is elected to a public office.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
