(See North Carolina State Board of Community College Code 1C SBCCC 400.96)<\/p>\n<p>Eligible personnel should complete the \u201cApplication for Educational Leave\u201d form in the Office of Human Resources. Supporting documents detailing the planned leave activities must be attached including statements on how the educational leave will benefit the College and how the leave activities are directly related to the applicant\u2019s job at the College.\u00a0 Activities that are not directly related to the applicant\u2019s job at the College or do not highly benefit the College will not be approved.\u00a0 Applicants will be notified of the approval or disapproval of educational leave by the President\u2019s Office.\u00a0 The number of leaves granted is limited and determined by the availability of State funds.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be routed through the line of authority to the President\u2019s Office.\u00a0 Once approved by the President, applications will be forwarded to the Trustees for action.\u00a0 Criteria used in determining priority and the granting of educational leave include:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The extent to which the leave will benefit the College in strengthening its educational programs or services and in meeting and maintaining its accreditation requirements;<\/li>\n<li>Special needs of the College to have an employee achieve specific preparation in a particular area of competence;<\/li>\n<li>Whether or not the request is for an initial leave, or for a second or later leave; (second and subsequent leave requests have a lower priority than requests for initial leaves)<\/li>\n<li>Number of years of service of applicant since last educational leave; (more years without leave gives higher priority)<\/li>\n<li>Number of hours and\/or quality of work the applicant is willing to carry while on leave with pay;<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated interest of the applicant for continued educational development.
