Golden LEAF Student Scholarships Recognized
Morganton, NC –Western Piedmont Community College recognizes and celebrates its students who receive Golden LEAF Scholarships each semester. In the Spring 2014 semester alone, fourteen students in curriculum study and occupational education were awarded. Among them is Xia “Daisy” Vang, who is pursuing her Associate in Applied Science degree in Business Administration. In addition to serving as the WPCC Student Government Association president, she also works part-time at the College.
“Being a Golden LEAF scholarship recipient is of great importance to me financially,” said Vang. “The funding I have received helps keep me focused on completing my education when money would otherwise be very tight. Receiving support from the Golden LEAF Foundation is a very valuable building block to help me reach my educational goals, and I am very grateful.”
Since the Fall 2012 semester, 72 WPCC students have received Golden LEAF Scholarships to allow them to pursue their dreams of higher education. The full list of scholarship recipients since Fall 2012 is listed at the end of this article.
Since its inception, the Golden LEAF Foundation has awarded over $29.9 million to help more than 10,100 students from rural North Carolina attend the state’s colleges and universities. Scholarships are available to students from qualifying counties, who demonstrate financial need, to help them attend college at participating North Carolina public or private institutions or community colleges.

Western Piedmont Community College is situated in the picturesque rolling foothills of Morganton, North Carolina, and has served the citizens of Burke County since 1964. Each year, more than 10,700 students pursue personal enrichment, new skills for a job or career, high school diplomas, college degrees, and transfer pathways.
