E-Tutoring

Welcome to the Academic Success Center’s e-Tutoring Program!

Students have the option of tutoring online in math and English with professional Academic Success Center tutors or tutoring with professional tutors through the new ThinkingStorm online tutoring platform available in each student’s Moodle account.  Students can click on any course in their Moodle account and the ThinkingStorm link is available in the Announcement section of the page.  Students need to be aware of the following about ThinkingStorm:

  • Tutoring is available in many subjects.
  • Students request an appointment in the subject which they are seeking tutoring assistance.  Some appointments may be filled within minutes, some subjects take longer to get an appointment.
  • ThinkingStorm is available FREE to all students and is available 24/7.
  • There is a 10 hour limit of tutoring available through ThinkingStorm per student not per subject.  Students may request an increase in hours through the Academic Success Center Coordinator at 828-448-3116.
  • ThinkingStorm provides 24/7 technical assistance to students.

Student tips for tutoring with ThinkingStorm tutors:

  • Schedule an appointment with a ThinkingStorm tutor through your Moodle account and send materials in advance so the tutor is prepared for the session.  Materials may be emailed in advance to assignments@thinkingstorm.com.  This allows the tutor time to know the content of the lesson for the tutoring session and time to prepare materials and examples.
  • Files may be shared in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), PDF, and image (.jpg, ,gif, and, png) formats in ThinkingStorms online classrooms.  Uploading files is especially beneficial when there are complicated diagram-based problems.
  • Contact the support team for routing assistance if unsure on what tutor is appropriate for the course.  Sometimes math is involved in accounting and sometimes statistics is involved in business courses.  ThinkingStorm support can provide direction for the appropriate tutor for the topic of the course.  Contact the ThinkingStorm support team by emailing care@thinkingstorm.com.
