The information below provides guidance on academic related topics to help you successfully complete your fall courses.
COURSEWORK
Below are steps that we will take to help you finish fall courses successfully:
- Extended Assignment Deadlines
Please check your Moodle courses and communicate with your instructors to ask about extended deadlines on various assignments. Our faculty have the freedom to be more flexible with course requirements.
- Tutoring
Students are reminded that tutors are available to assist across any subject areas. To schedule an in-person or online tutoring appointment, students can click on the “Tutors by Appointment” icon in Moodle. Online subject-based tutoring is available 24 hours a day / 7 days a week through the BrainFuse link in Moodle. If you need assistance with these resources, call the main Academic Success Center line at (828) 448-3160 or contact director Nancy Daniel at ndaniel@wpcc.edu or (828) 448-3160
- Technology Access
If your online services have been disrupted, our Library and Academic Success Center have an open computer lab with working Internet.
- Attendance
The federal government requires the College to withdraw students who have not attended class for 14 consecutive days with a grade of “W.” If you have been withdrawn from your classes and wish to continue, please contact your instructor in writing or via email to request reinstatement in the course. For A Term students, this needs to be done by October 14, 2024.
- Automatic Withdrawal of Failing Students
By the end of the Fall 2024 semester, WPCC faculty will automatically withdraw students from any course where they are earning a failing grade. Students who are withdrawn must repeat the course to earn credit, but their Grade Point Averages (GPAs) will not be negatively impacted
- Incompletes for A Term Courses
To give students and faculty time to make up lost class time and complete assignments, WPCC will automatically issue Incomplete (I) grades to all students taking A Term classes that were due to finish mid-October. Students should communicate with each A Term instructor no later than October 14, 2024, to get information about completion plans before final grades are submitted
- Incompletes for Other Courses
Your instructors may issue temporary incomplete (I) grades if you can agree on a plan for completing outstanding requirements successfully by the end of the Spring 2025 semester.
To request an “I” grade, discuss your situation directly with your instructor before the end of Fall semester and before your instructor’s submission of final grades. If your instructor agrees to submit an “I” grade, they will work with you to develop a completion timeline. You must submit coursework no later than the end of Spring semester, but faculty may set shorter or longer timelines for outstanding work.
If an incomplete course is a prerequisite for another course, you must wait until the “I” grade becomes a passing grade to register for the next course.
After all work has been submitted and evaluated, the instructor will replace the student’s “I” grade with the appropriate final grade. If the student does not complete the course requirements by agreed-upon deadlines, their course grade will convert to an “F.”
WITHDRAWALS
Students who wish to withdraw from a class should submit the ‘Student Course Withdrawal Form’ located in Moodle. This can be found at the top menu bar of Moodle after logging in. If you cannot locate the link to the form, you may have to maximize your browser or click on the ‘More v’ button to view the form. A Success Coach will be in touch with you within 24-48 business hours. The Success Coach may work with different departments to assist you with any challenges or barriers preventing you from being successful in the course. If they are unable to assist you or cannot contact you within 48 hours, the Success Coach will forward the information to your course instructor to submit a Withdrawal Form.
*Students on financial aid should contact the Financial Aid Office (828-448-6046) before withdrawing to inquire how withdrawals can affect their financial aid. Financial aid may have to be returned depending on the timing and level of withdrawal. Students wishing to withdraw from B-term classes before the start of B-term (October 16, 2024) should contact their advisor immediately.
