This course of study meets the state guidelines for instruction. A current notary book is required. The book can be purchased through the WPCC Bookstore. Class Section Number: 52599Students will utilize hand building techniques such as slab, drape, and coil to create bowls, cups, and plates. Students will select from an assortment of clay and glazes and learn how to apply various surface treatments such as overglaze and maiolica. This class is open to all levels of ceramic students. Tools may be purchased in the WPCC bookstore. Upon completion, students will create a five place setting dinnerware set. All levels welcome!

Section: 53210Self-defense begins long before an attack happens. Knowing how to protect yourself is an important set of skills that everyone should have. Learn self-defense techniques to build your confidence as well as how to respond when you are faced with threatening situations. Your instructor will teach you evasive techniques and behaviors to help you avoid dangerous situations. Please wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. Self-defense is all about using your smarts not your fists. In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn how to avoid being a target, how to prepare for a possible attack, how to keep a clear mind and how to use your natural strengths to retaliate effectively and decisively. Students will learn evasion maneuvers, blocks, releases, and strikes to use in case they ever do need to protect themselves. Ages 13 and up.

Using maple provided by the studio, students will create templates and perform joinery methods required for strong chair construction. Students will be introduced to equipment usage and safety: shaper, band saw, jointer, and table saw. Sanding and finishing will be covered. Students will upholstery their seat with studio fabric or provide their own. Upon completion, students will create one four post chair with upholstered seat.

Many of the fundamentals covered also apply to automobiles, motorcycles, ATVs, mini bikes and go karts. Major topics include safety, gas engine fundamentals, batteries, fuel, oil, grease, blades, fasteners, tools, various adjustments, regular maintenance (including oil, air and fuel filter changing), tire pressure and proposed storage of equipment

Class Section Number: 52820Come with a plan and let’s make it happen! This class provides a format in which to explore personal interests in wood design with instructor supervision and guidance. Students will have six intensive work sessions, 4 hours each. Students will lay out a student instructor developed plan, specifying goals reasonable for the course. Students with working drawings will go directly into the making process. Upon completion, students will hone skill sets while creating a simple yet elegant wood object.
