This 208-hour totally online course is designed to provide instruction in the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under supervision of a registered pharmacist. Topics include drug packaging and labeling, outpatient dispensing, hospital dispensing procedures, controlled substance procedures, inventory control, and non-sterile compounding. Upon completion, student should be able to perform basic supervised dispensing techniques in a variety of pharmacy settings. Students who successfully complete this training program will be eligible to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) offered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

In this 6-week introduction to the fundamentals of American Sign Language, students will learn how to properly fingerspell, use numbers and develop a basic vocabulary of conversational signs. Being proficient in ASL allows you to communicate with a wide range of hearing, hard of hearing, and deaf individuals—including students in mainstream and deaf school or university programs and deaf or hard of hearing residents and business people in your community.

An Emergency Medical Technician class will be held from January 23 - June 22, 2023 at the Foothills Higher Education Center. It consists of classroom and clinical instruction and will prepare students to take the EMT exam administered by the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services.

Prerequisites

  • TABE placement test for reading comprehension (minimum of 11th grade reading level). Learn more about the TABE test or call (828) 448-6140 for a test appointment.  Test  results are required in order to register.

  • $180 registration fee (unless you are fee-exempt)
  • $14.20 fee for Accident & Liability Insurance (paid by all students)
  • $16 WPCC Polo Shirt required for clinical instruction

This 180-hour course prepares an individual for entry level healthcare billing and coding positions. Course topics can include but are not limited to the roles and responsibilities of this position, managed health care, life cycle of an insurance claim, legal and regulatory considerations, coding regulations, reimbursement issues, claim instructions, medical terminology, filing commercial claims, insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid Tricare, and Workers' Compensation. Upon completion, students should also be able to utilize MS Windows and the Internet to effectively retrieve billing-related information and updates, and have the knowledge base to apply for national certification as a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist.
