– If you have been charged with a minor violation in the 36th North Carolina Judicial District, you may elect to have it reduced by the District Attorney by completing a 4-hour defensive driving course. It is offered through Western Piedmont Community College and the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina to train motorists in the principles of defensive driving. – WPCC is offering a new and exciting training for the Do-It-Yourselfer. If you have decided to do your own repairs at home. Let us lend you some helpful training. Whatever it is inside the home or yard work. WPCC has three upcoming classes that might help to achieve your goal. Course: Basic Excavator Operations This course will give the student a hands-on experience with the (CAT- Simulators) Excavator. The course will teach the student control familiarization along with proper procedures. The course will provide scenarios from safety inspection, starting operations, and shutdown. By the end of the course, a student should be able to operate a mini-Excavator. There is an opportunity for a student to receive a job interview with a construction partner or municipalities. The student will learn to use safety equipment and proper techniques necessary in welding. This welding course will include PPE, and all guidelines in welding safety. The course will give the students a hands-on opportunity to practice welding techniques. The students should wear proper clothing including closed toe shoes. All PPE will be provided by the instructor and students should wear clothes that would be considered proper clothing. It is important that a student does not wear clothing or shoes which can cause injury to the student. For example, no flip flops should be worn in the welding area. By the end of the course, a student should be able to demonstrate a proper welding task safely. – Course: Basic Homeowner Electrical Troubleshooting In this course, the student will learn to install a light switch, along with receptacles. The emphasis of the course is to determine electrical issues. The course will supply all needed tools along with safety equipment. The student should wear clothing suitable for working in the environment. By the end of this course, a student will be able to install a light switch, along with a receptacle, safely and successfully. The course will include tools such as box blades, sanders, and drywall mortar with proper applications. The student should wear clothing that is suitable for the construction site. By the end of this course, a student will be able to repair a drywall defect.
