Join us as we explore media content creation from concept development to recording and editing sound and imagery including live-stream broadcasting! WPCC welcomes you to unleash your creativity and join other content creators for an insightful journey into this exciting field where you find your audience!

There are no requirements that you have previous knowledge of content creation gear, or computer hardware knowledge other than basic computer operations and an interest to learn!

Live Stream the Course from Home!

The course will be made available for students via live stream while also providing the option for students to attend the course using WPCC’s digital media labs.

 

What you will need for the class

If you plan on attending the course completely or partially at home or an off-campus location, you will need the CPU specifications

  • Computer Webcam and microphone capability
  • CPU OS: Windows 10 64-bit/ Apple Intel Core I7 Processor M1/M2 chip
  • GPU: NVIDIA GTX 10 series or newer, AMD RX400 series or newer
  • RAM: 8GB+

    Internet Speed

  • 6 to 10 MBS for both upload and download

 

Hands-on Instruction

Students will be guided on setting up multiple social media platforms for content creation and will share in creative content projects with other class members and social media communities!

Students will be exposed to easily accessible tools for creating audio and video content and will be exposed to high-end tools for media capture, post-production editing, and sophisticated live-stream broadcasts!

Hayden Robinson

Hayden Robinson is an alumnus of WPCC and UNC Asheville, using the skills he developed there in a wide variety of professional projects. While primarily a graphic and motion designer, he has a variety of experiences – from visual effects production to directing live news broadcasts. He loves being an instructor at Western Piedmont and looks forward to learning from students each semester, just as much as he teaches.

He enjoys spending his free time with his partner, Julia, and their two cats, Charlie and Forrest. He also enjoys working on personal projects and gaming with friends; currently, he is working on his second D&D campaign for a group of close friends.

Tyler Mckenzie

Tyler Mckenzie

Tyler is a local filmmaker and visual effects artist who studied at Western Piedmont Community College from 2017-2020. He began his passion for creating film content when he entered his high school years and has since developed his into a professional VFX artist working with local independent film talent in North Carolina. He is known by his online personality as Soniccrew128, making fan animations for his YouTube Channel, and his Twitch Stream channel.

Brandon Pope

Brandon Pope

Brandon Pope, 38, is the owner and creative director of BPope Productions, which thrives on growing companies and nonprofits with creative solutions using video that achieves measurable and sustainable marketing results.

His current experience includes over 10 years of being a creative business owner in Hickory/Catawba County, along with 15 years of professional video/film production experience. Pope specializes in business films, live event streaming, wedding films, and aerial drone media (FAA certified).

Live Stream Course Sessions from Home

Each class session in the eight-week course is available through live stream access. You have the option of attending the courses from your home or you may use our digital media labs located on the main campus of WPCC. Though we encourage all types of digital capture gear but understand most people will use a phone or tablet for recording content.

There are 2 ways to sign up:

  • (Option 1) SIGN UP ONLINE
    Use the online registration for WPCC Continuing Education (the section number is 70664  Beginning in Digital Content Creation). You will be sent a separate email with information on payment for the course and accessing the class. 
  • (Option 2) REGISTER IN PERSON
    Stop by Hildebrand Hall on the WPCC Main Campus [map] Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

WPCC’s DEAT & SGD Programs

WPCC offers an Associate in Applied Science degree in Simulation and Game Development (SGD) that prepares graduates for careers including independent cxontractors, artists, video programmers, game and sound design, game testers and producers.  We also offer an Associate in Applied Science degree in Digital Effects and Animation Technology (DEAT) that prepares graduates for careers such as graphic and motion graphic design for video and web, 3-D simulation and visualization, video production, freelance work, and marketing.
