Student Rights and Responsibilities

Student Rights

 Students have the right to know: 

  1. The types of financial assistance available at WPCC including federal, state, and local financial aid programs.

  2. The standards of how financial aid recipients are chosen.

  3. How to apply for the different financial aid programs and the deadlines for each.

  4. The type of financial assistance received and how the amounts of each were determined.

  5. How and when the financial aid will be distributed.

  6. How cost of attendance budget was considered at WPCC (tuition/fees, books and supplies, personal and miscellaneous expenses, etc.)

  7. What resources are considered when calculating your financial need (Assets, other financial aid, parental contribution, etc.)

  8. The interest rate and repayment provisions if the student is borrowing Stafford Loan money.

  9. Kind of job, hours to be worked, the duties, rate of pay, and payment schedule if student is offered a college work study position.

  10. The policy for withdrawals and refunds for students who drop out.

  11. How WPCC determines whether you are making satisfactory academic progress and the consequences if you are not.

Student Responsibilities 

Students must:

  1. Complete financial aid applications completely and accurately and submit them to WPCC by the established deadlines.

  2. Supply all additional documentation, verification, corrections, and/or new information requested by the Financial Aid Office.

  3. Accept responsibility for all signed agreements; therefore, read, understand, and keep copies of all financial aid correspondence they are asked to sign.

  4. Notify the WPCC Financial Aid Office of any additional financial aid or assistance received.

  5. In Regards to Federal Stafford Loans: know the amount they borrowed, the name of their lender, complete entrance loan counseling before loan is certified, complete exit loan counseling before graduation, and repay all loans in accordance with the repayment provisions discussed in the Master Promissory Note.

  6. Satisfactorily perform the work agreed upon in any Federal College Work Study job at WPCC.

  7. Be aware of WPCC’s withdrawal and refund policy.
