Financial Aid Programs Federal Pell Grant Program (Title IV) The purpose of the Federal Pell Grant Program is to provide eligible students with a foundation of financial aid to help defray the cost of post-secondary education. The Federal Pell Grant award could range from $400 to $4,050 per academic year at WPCC, depending on students’ cost of education and if students attend college for a full academic year on a full-time basis. Part-time students may be eligible. North Carolina Community College Grant This grant is intended to provide funds to help meet the educational costs of NC residents attending community colleges. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the published deadline and list WPCC as one of the top three choices of institutions. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (Title IV) This grant is for students of exceptional financial need who, without the grant, would be unable to continue their education. Priority is given to students who receive a Federal Pell Grant and have a low expected family contribution (EFC). NC Student Incentive Grant (Title IV) Students with exceptional need may apply for the NCSIG by releasing personal financial information to the State of North Carolina when they file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Eligible students will receive $700 per academic year. March 15 is the deadline to apply. Federal Work Study Program (Title IV) This aid provides part time jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. WPCC attempts to match work assignments with your area of study. Due to limited funds, WPCC has limited work study positions. Interested students should fill out a Federal Work Study application and contact the Assistant Director of Financial Aid. Federal Stafford Loans (Title IV) This is money that has to be repaid six months after the student graduates, drops out, or drops below half time (6 credit hours). Students are required to complete a Master Promissory Note, a Federal Stafford Loan request form, and Entrance Loan Counseling on-line before WPCC can certify a loan. Students have to be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours) in order to receive the Federal Stafford Loan. Scholarships A number of institutional scholarships are available to WPCC students. In addition many local agencies, clubs, organizations, and businesses sponsor other scholarships. Students can apply for WPCC scholarships by completing a WPCC Scholarship Application. If you are applying for a scholarship based on financial need, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). June 1st is the priority deadline for the following Fall Semester. North Carolina Community College Childcare Assistance Program This program provides student parents, enrolled at least half-time (six credit hours) at WPCC, financial assistance in the form of payment of childcare costs. Priorities are given to single parents with the greatest need, but married students may also be eligible. For additional information, please contact the Coordinator of Special Populations.
