How to Tell if a website is secure?
Entering your personal or financial information online in the past was an experience fraught with danger, not any more. With this short guide you'll know how to tell if a website is secure enough for you to hand over your personal information.
Generally websites use a standard connection called HTTP but secure websites use an encrypted connection called HTTPS (The S stands for Secure and comes from an SSL certificate). Here's how you can tell whether or not a website's connection is secure.

Another tell-tale sign of a secure website is the lock icon which usually appears in the bottom right-hand corner of your web browser and looks like this:
![]()
Firefox is a web browser that makes spotting a secure website easy.
![]()
It turns your address bar yellow and shows the lock icon in the address bar also. This means that whenever you're on a a website and about to enter personal or financial details you can just glance up to see if the address is yellow and if it is you can proceed and if it isn't you can leave the site.
