Building Business in Burke County

Western Piedmont Community College has collaborated with local industry representatives to establish an industry driven, Burke County Manufacturers Association.

Western Piedmont Community College facilitates the meetings to provide an open forum that allows communication and networking towards the aim of stability and growth for individual firms and the region. The primary purposes of the association are to provide skills training, best practices, and expertise to leverage resources, build a network for financial viability and customer satisfaction, and increase communication among firms.

The Burke County Manufacturers Association formed in October 2008 to serve the manufacturing sector and promote industrial growth in Burke County. Meetings focus on the immediate needs of local industries and the benefits of collaborative networking and problem solving, as well as topics of interest regarding workforce development, continuing education and customized job training, statewide initiatives, human resource development and competencies inventory, OSHA requirements, and sharing resources.

Roundtable discussions allow association members the opportunity to network, brainstorm, and support growth mechanisms in local industry. Representatives are encouraged to briefly describe their product or service, as well as needs or interests with the group. Members learn more about the College's customized training programs, productivity enhancement, and occupational extension training. The College can also assist firms by assessing job skills, evaluating competencies, and streamlining the employment application process.
