Photo of Danette Steelman-BridgesDanette Steelman-Bridges was hired as coordinator of the Interpreter Education program in 2006 when the program was first established at WPCC. Most students enter the program with limited knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and the Deaf Community.

Danette enjoys watching her students develop a deep appreciation for ASL and a profound respect for the Deaf Community. She reminds her students that “The more you know about the world around you, the better interpreter you will be.”

Danette spends her free time with her family, hiking with her dog Raj, working in the Deaf-Blind community, and traveling.

She visited Schools for the Deaf in both France and Japan and plans to visit schools for the Deaf in other countries in the near future.
