WPCC offers a variety of classes for professional training along with personal advancement and enjoyment both in seated classes and online through ed2go. These classes are designed to accommodate busy lifestyles and provide opportunities to quickly get skills or explore interests.

New In-Person Registration Hours
You can also register and pay in person for Continuing Education and Workforce Development classes with Yvette Logan in Hildebrand Hall, Room 100E [map]. Yvette will be available for registrations Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Remember, you need to register for classes prior to the class start date (preferably 48 hours prior), allowing time for all payments to process before the class begins.

Want to set a reminder for a class on your phone, tablet, or computer’s calendar? It’s easy. Click the class name to read a description and register to attend. At the bottom, click the iCal link to add the class to your peraonal calendar.
This course is designed to expand on the techniques learned in Digital Photos - Introduction. The class is open to both point and shoot and digital SLR camera users. Students are required to have their own camera and should be familiar with the camera controls and manual. Class sessions will alternate between classroom teaching using lectures, handouts, and videos as well as hands on shooting in studio type settings. Learn to size, crop and color adjust digital images. Alternate classes will consist of field trips to various sites (local and extended) depending on seasonal opportunities. Field trips in the past have included The Arboretum and Ball Photo Supply in Asheville, Grandfather Mountain, McGalliard Falls, downtown Morganton, Vending Machine Museum in Granite Falls, Chapel of Rest in Happy Valley, John Payne Studio, South Mountain State Park, an apple orchard, etc. Prerequisite: Digital Photos Introduction.
Vibrant leaf colors, up to panoramic views, waterfalls and dramatic outdoor scenery, in focus for shutterbugs; workshop led by Marv Higgins photographer on November 5th during peak fall color. Burke County and Lake James area fall colors are expected to peak around this time, presenting a vibrant landscape with yellow, red and orange hues for leaf peeping shutterbugs. Unique geological rock formations, expansive views of Lake James and Table Rock, Short off the Linville Gorge, along with diverse plant and animal life, mark Burke County a top destination for photography in Western North Carolina. This workshop is designed for beginner and experienced photographers.
Are you wondering how to get the most from your smartphone camera? In this class you will learn how to maximize the potential of these devices. Learn both the technical and artistic aspects of good smartphone photography and what you can do with some of its most popular photo apps. Learn from a professional photographer how to take better photos with the camera that’s always in your pocket. Please bring your smartphone, charger and have your user name and password ready to add photo apps. Instructor: Marv Higgins
If you are in the market for or have recently acquired a digital camera, this course is for you. Identify various types and features of current digital cameras. Explore the advantages and limitations of digital cameras and get tips to help you take better photos. Discuss what hardware and software is available to print, edit, organize and enhance your photos. Learn the basic digital camera skills. Designed for point and shoot digital cameras as well as digital SLR systems, this course provides an understanding of digital imaging from the pixel level, digital cameras, scanning, photo-editing and printing. Students will learn camera controls and capabilities and apply them to photographic situations. Students must supply their own digital camera and owner’s manual. Instructor: Marv Higgins
Bring out the best in your images! Adobe Photoshop Elements provides the tools for quick fixes and detailed enhancement. With this hands-on course, you will enhance photos and artwork that will demonstrate the Photoshop basics and capabilities. Using the powerful tools of retouching, painting and drawing, you will be able to create dazzling images to make your presentations, newsletters or artwork pop. You should know how to use a computer, but no previous Photoshop experience is necessary. Instructor: Marv Higgins
