College Invites Public to Reception to Welcome New President
Morganton, NC – Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) invites the public to a reception to welcome Dr. Michael S. Helmick, WPCC’s new president, to the College and the community. The reception will be held on the College campus at 1001 Burkemont Avenue in the Phifer Learning Resources Center, room 120, from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11. Dr. Helmick is the sixth president of Western Piedmont Community College, having been selected by College Trustees to fill this position, effective Aug. 1, 2014. This is Dr. Helmick’s second presidency after previously serving as the president of Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, NC. Having previously served as the vice president for academic affairs at WPCC, Dr. Helmick is thrilled to return to western North Carolina. He plans to help the College grow by exploring innovative programming, and increasing the College’s efforts to help educate a local workforce that will serve the needs of the community.
Western Piedmont Community College is situated in the picturesque rolling foothills of Morganton, North Carolina, and has served the citizens of Burke County since 1964. Each year, more than 10,700 students pursue personal enrichment, new skills for a job or career, high school diplomas, college degrees, and transfer pathways. Registration for the Fall semester’s B Term classes will be held on Thursday, Oct. 16 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on the college campus. Applications for admission must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 at 7 p.m. The College’s B Term classes begin on Friday, Oct. 17.
