Course Description: This course has been developed by the N. C. Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission, as a means of training individuals to function as detention officers, upon successful completion of the course.

Course Description: This course instructs the officer in the basic concepts of management and employee relations. The officer will become acquainted with the legal aspects of police supervision and methods to insure compliance. The officer will participate in class exercises and activities that demonstrate the application of the techniques and methods studied in class. All material presented is backed up by studies and research in the field of police management. Topics include:

Course Description:  This course will enhance your tactical skills while answering high risk calls. This course focuses on the most threatening calls that police officers typically answer. By providing yourself with the awareness and tactical skills covered in this course, you will be better prepared to respond appropriately when a threatening situation occurs.

Date: September 15-19, 2008
Time: 0800 - 1700 - (40 Hours)

Instructor: Major Billy R. Bradshaw
     
Course Description:  This is a commission-mandated course governed by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.  This forty –hour (40) course of instruction is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to proficiently perform those tasks essential to function as a radar operator.

Officers must pass written state examination with a passing score of 70%.

Course Description:  To maintain and enhance the skills necessary to operate radar speed measuring instruments. Trainee's agency must provide a vehicle and radar(s) for practice and testing.  
police dog Traffic Stops (Criminal Interdiction)
Date: December 10-11, 2008
Time: 0800 - 1700 - (16 Hours)
Location: Health Sciences Building - Classroom 160
Instructor: Michael A. Lewis
     
Course Description:  This intense two-day course is designed for veterans and newcomers alike.  It focuses on the relationship between traffic enforcement and criminal enforcement.  Specific techniques are covered to assist officers in detecting criminal activity.  Students will receive extensive instruction in roadside interviews and hidden compartments.
