Basic Law
Enforcement Training (BLET) is designed to give students
essential skills required for entry-level employment as law
enforcement officers with state, county,or municipal
governments, or with private enterprise.
This program
utilizes State Commission-mandated topics and methods of
instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to,
criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcoholic beverage laws;
investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency
responses; and ethics and community relations.
Successful graduates
receive a curriculum certificate and are qualified to take
certification examinations mandated by the North Carolina
Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission
and/or the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training
Standards Commission.
Admissions Policy

Enrollment in this program is restricted to applicants
who meet the following criteria: |

Must be 20 years of age
or older |
| 2. |
Must hold a high school
diploma or GED |
| 3. |
Must meet all minimum
standards for employment and certification in criminal
justice employment |
| 4. |
Must obtain sponsorship
from an organized law enforcement agency. |
Students
successfully completing a Basic Law Enforcement Training course
accredited by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and
Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriff's
Education and Training Standards Commission will receive credit
for the following courses toward the A.A.S. degree in Criminal
Justice Technology. Students must have
successfully passed the Commissions' comprehensive certification
examination, and have completed Basic Law Enforcement Training
in the last seven years.
