The Academic Success Center (ASC) provides free services to students currently enrolled, students preparing for the college placement test, and students requiring a proctor for distance learning courses at other institutions. For more information, please contact the ASC at 828-448-3115.
Prospective students planning on attending Western Piedmont may prepare for the placement test in the ASC. Diagnostic testing in reading, writing, and math assists staff in creating an individualized study program. Study programs are designed for a brief brush-up of skills. Prospective students should plan to spend 25 hours in each of the diagnostic testing areas to sufficiently prepare for the college placement test. Staff and tutors are available to assist students with their study program. Books are available for use in the Academic Success Center. Take-home worksheets are also available. PLATO, a web-based program, is available for prospective students who have Internet access at home. For information on websites that offer tutorials, study skills practice exercises and tests, click on the following link: Tutorials and Study Skills Link.
